More cows. Check out that landscape: before the Dust Bowl problems were resolved, our land was completely featureless. No trees. No hills. Roads were grooves in the dirt, no ditches, no raised surface. The flooding river spread out unimpeded, which reduced the severity of its impact, but also slathered the land with fresh nutrient-laden silt.
