This map appeared in the August 25th, 1950, issue of the Bismarck Tribune. This new town was designed to consolidate Sanish and Van Hook, two small towns about to be flooded by the Garrison Dam project. The newspaper wittily called this new town "Vanish", a play on Sanish's town name. But in the end the new town was called...New Town.
