\u00a0Weird, huh?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well, that&#8217;s because <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/biography\/rushmore-borglum\/\">Gutzon Borglum<\/a> <em>put <\/em>a face there: that is several years away from becoming the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/moru\/index.htm\">Mount Rushmore<\/a> we know and love today &#8212; President Washington is only partially done:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1619\" href=\"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/rushmore-in-progress-1930s.html\/mount-rushmore-only-washington-finished-1934-detail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1619\" title=\"mount-rushmore-only-washington-finished-1934-detail\" src=\"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mount-rushmore-only-washington-finished-1934-detail-450x498.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"498\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mount-rushmore-only-washington-finished-1934-detail-450x498.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mount-rushmore-only-washington-finished-1934-detail-923x1024.jpg 923w, http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/mount-rushmore-only-washington-finished-1934-detail.jpg 1207w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>Carving started in 1927, and the finished Washington face was <a href=\"http:\/\/tomshess.blogspot.com\/2013\/07\/mt-rushmores-first-facea.html\">unveiled to the public on July 4th, 1934<\/a>, so that puts this photo somewhere in between, probably 1932 or 1933. \u00a0Based on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Rushmore#mediaviewer\/File:Mount_Rushmore2.jpg\">this 1932 photo<\/a>, progress seemed at about the same point, so 1932 is probably right. \u00a0They didn&#8217;t carve all the faces at once &#8212; Washington was completed in 1934, Jefferson in 1936, Lincoln in 1937, and then Roosevelt in 1939. \u00a0 About 4 years after the photo above, here&#8217;s how much progress they made:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.collectorsquest.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/28\/wheres-waldo\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1620\" title=\"rushmore-card\" src=\"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/rushmore-card-450x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"693\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/rushmore-card-450x693.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/rushmore-card.jpg 519w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>Jefferson&#8217;s nearly done and they got Lincoln&#8217;s nose, which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collectorsquest.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/28\/wheres-waldo\/\">puts this postcard at about 1936 or 1937.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve got a lot of old photos &#8211; almost more than we know what to do with. \u00a0 This one is so over-saturated, so light, that I had to really darken it in Photoshop just to see anything, and I didn&#8217;t realize what it was at first: You might be thinking, &#8220;Wow &#8212; it kinda [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[9,258,619,620],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1617"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1617"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1617\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1624,"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1617\/revisions\/1624"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1617"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1617"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.infomercantile.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1617"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
