		+	EL PASO, Tex., April 29.--Mrs. Regina Maria Fredex (SP), of Denver, self-styled "queen of Heaven and earth" in the cult of Jehova Joshua Sykes, won a victory in federal court here today when Judge W. R. Smith granted her petition for the removal of her property, estimated at $150,000, from John Highsmith, her cousin, and Beauregard McCutcheon, her uncle. The court granted the petitioner's application for the appointment of a receiver and a master in chancery to take testimony and make report as to matters between petitioner and defendant, and at the same time issued an injunction to prevent Highsmith from interfering with Mrs. Frede in any matter. Judge Smith requested attorneys on both sides to endeavor to reach an agreement on a suitable person for receiver.

		+	DENVER, Color., March 3.--Joshua "Jehovah" Sykes, self-styled King of Heaven and Earth, who failed to appear in San Francisco Wedbesday to begin serving an eighteen months' sentence for draft obstruction during the war, was arrested last night by the police after an exciting automobile chase. The police charge that Sykes' followers were trying to smuggle him out of town.

		+	The police had invaded the Temple of the Church of the Living God, over which Sykes presides, early last night on a request from San Francisco that he be arrested. Sykes was not there. Later word came that Sykes had entered the temple about 8 o'clock and proceeded to his pulpit in his robes of white and preached a sermon. The police went to the temple just as Sykes was being spirited into an automobile by his followers.

		+	The police followed in another machine and overtook the Sykes car in a residential section of the city. The police crowded the Sykes car to the curb, forcing the machine to stop and the arrest was made without a struggle.

		+	Sykes returned to Denver Monday, after taking a train for San Francisco Sunday afternoon. A report was current Monday that he had returned, but it could not be confirmed. Several attempts were made during the week to find Sykes, but he kept in hiding, away from his usual haunts.

		+	His capture followed information from San Francisco that his bondsmen wished to surrender him.

		+	<b>JUDGMENT DAY NEAR.</b>

		+	"The day of judgment is here," Sykes told newspapermen from behind the bars of a cell in city jail. "My Maker told me to come back. If I had surrendered voluntarily to the authorities, I could have but lacked judgment."

		+	Sykes predicted an earthquake probably on March 4, which would have dire consequences. "I'm inside, you're outside," he told his iterviewers (SP). "Six months from now things may be reversed. The day of judgment is here. You may be put in here and I'll be on the outside."

		+	Sykes referred to a newspaper clipping announcing the repeal of the wartime laws and declared that this would mean his liberty within a few days.

		+	DENVER, Dec. 24.--Hamilton Osborne, chief of police of Denver, today asked District Attorney Foley to file charges against Joshua Sykes, known as "Jehovah," head of the cult called "Tabernacle of David," which is alleged to have 600 followers in Denver. Sykes is known in San Francisco.

		+	The police chief's charges alleged flagrant immortality and said children of church followers were hungry and ate from garbage cans on the way to school.
		+
		+	The doctrine of Sykes, alleged to be taught to his congregation, as related in the written charges of the police chief, is that the minister forbids marriage and that he has left his wife to take up another woman, named in the police charges.

		+	Armstrong charges that "Jehovah" is an exponent of free love and alleges his teachings are a "menace to the morals of the city of Denver."

		+	SAN FRANCISCO, Dev. 24.--Joshua Sykes was sentenced in San Francisco on January 23, 1919, to 18 months imprisonment in the federal penitentiary at McNeil's Island, Washington , for conspiracy to obstruct the draft law, but was released pending appeal. Sykes was pastor of the "Church of the Living God" in Berkeley, Cal., and several of his followers were convicted with him.

		+	OAKLAND, CAL, Dec. 24.--Joshua Sykes was head of a religious organization in Berheley until a crowd of citizens of that city, incensed at reports of his teachings and because he tore down an American flag, burned his tent and threw him into the huge baptismal font which was a permanent feature of his tabernacle.

		+	The Berkeley police had complaints from husbands who blamed Sykes and his teachings for breaking up their homes. After defying all efforts to make him move from Berkeley, Sykes announced that he had a "vision" that the city was to be destroyed and advised his followers to follow him to Denver.

The departure was unostentations. The little band embarked quietly in automobiles at an early hour, and headed for the east.

Some one hundred and fifty members of the church remained in Berkeley and Oakland to await the ascension.

		+	The departure of the little band this morning marks the beginning of another chaper (SP) in the history of the Church of the Living God, founded by Sykes in Berkeley four years ago. In a tent at the corner of Shattuck avenue and Derby streets, Sykes located his Temple of Favid, and proceeded to preach a new faith. His existence in Berkeley was a stormy one, punctuated at intervals with appeals to the police to restore order and afford protection.

		+	Because of alleged pro-German utterances of the "pastor" and some members of his flock, citizens of Berkeley, a month ago, stormed his meeting place, set fire to the tent and surrounding building belonging to the institution, and threatened Sykes with a coat of tar and feathers if he did not leave the city. For days Sykes did not show up in the city, hiding, it was said by the police, in San Francisco. A visit to Denver followed, and, although his reception there wass not exactly to his liking, he found a new site in Colorado.

		+	Attorney Theodore Bell, of San Francisco, who has defended Sykes in various legal encounters, and against whom charges of misconduct were filed with the San Francisco Bar association soon after the burning of Sykes' church because he asked a retainer of $1,000 to defend five members of the church for alleged violations of orders from their exemption board, was given a clean bill of health by the grievance committee of the association Saturday, following an investigation. The committee adopted a resolution, signed by Herbert Rothschild, secretary of the committee, which follows:
