Averell Harriman was a leading candidate for the Democrat nomination in the 1956 election, second only to Adlai Stevenson. Both Stevenson and Harriman had connections to the New Deal, but Harriman had a more liberal outlook and closer connctions to labor, thus his accusation of leftism by this political comic.
