Francis M. Scilley, 84[1]

Laguna Woods, Calif. - Francis Maynard Scilley, 84 of Laguna Woods, Calif., and formerly of Thief River Falls, died of respiratory arrest on May 19, 2004 in Laguna Woods, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church in St. Paul on June 18, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Hills, Calif.

Francis Maynard Scilley was born on August 14, 1919 in Leonard, N.D., the son of George and Mary (Brown) Scilley.

Francis graduated from Leonard High School and North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.

He was united in marriage to Norma Haugen of Davenport, N.D. on May 12, 1943 in Pulaski, Va.

Francis was a state soil scientist for the USDA Soils and Conservation Service in Thief River Falls and White Bear Lake.

Survivors include his wife Norma; one son, Roger Scilley of Laguna Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Nancy Bitner of Lawrence, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken Scilley of White Bear Lake; and one sister, Lois Black of Fargo, N.D.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ricky.
